Back in the mid-eighties I was working on a theatre production with an eminent Israeli ballet choreographer, Domy Reiter-Sofer. He confessed to knowing nothing about jazz and I confessed to knowing less about ballet, so it was agreed that I would write a jazzdance project.

Writing SPONDANCE cost nothing but time, but recording the work required much more of the international language of love, to wit, money. Help came from the Arts Council of Ireland, from IMRO, the Irish Federation of Musicians and from NORDIC Ltd.

My old friend, trumpeter Bobby Shew booked the musicians and studio in Hollywood, California and Louis Stewart and myself flew over to join them in recording the piece.

This then is SPONDANCE. We hope you like it.
